気になるブログ-英語と日本語の違い
日本語には無いが、英語の形容詞と副詞には比較級と最上級の表現がある。
比較級は語尾にer を最上級は定冠詞のthe を付けて語尾はest になるのが基本の形となります。
例えば
young, younger, the youngest
large, larger, the largest
hard, harder, the hardest
late, later, the latest
のように。
語尾がyで終わる場合はyがiに変わってer 又はest が付く形になります。
例えば
early, earlier, the earliest
happy, happier, the happiest
easy, easier, the easiest
のように
語尾の文字 を重ねてer 又はest を付ける形もあります。
例えば
hot, hotter, he hottest
big, bigger, the biggest
sad, sadder, the saddest
のように
原級の前にmore やthe most を付ける形もあります。
例えば
interesting, more interesting, the most interesting
exciting, more exciting, the most exciting
tired, more tired, the most tired
beautiful, more beautiful, the most beautiful
careful, more careful, the most careful
difficult, more difficult, the most difficult
important, more important, the most important
popular, more popular, the most popular
quickly, more quickly, the most quickly
のように
語数の多い単語は語尾変化させずにmore やmost を付ける単語が増える。
しかし、これは他の品詞に語尾を付け足して形容詞や副詞に変化させている場合が多いのでその場合はさらに語尾変化を付け足さないとも考えられます。
例えば
形容詞を作る語尾に動詞＋ing や動詞＋ed
名詞＋ful 名詞＋less 名詞＋ous 等
名詞＋語尾でちょっと、思い出したので追加します。
al, ous, ic, y, ful, able, ive, ible 「ある,朝,行く,ワイ,フル,アブル,イブって,イブル」形容詞
副詞を作る語尾に形容詞＋ly
のように。
good とwell はどちらもbetter, the best になる。
manyと much はどちらも more, the most になる。
これらは結局、覚えるしかないので書かなくても良かったのですが、次に上手く繋がらないような気もしたので書いてみました。
